Philip Barry, author of The Philadelphia Story, also penned this star vehicle for Hepburn, here reprising the role she took to Broadway as a wealthy widow who lets out her Washington mansion to inventor Tracy to facilitate his vital war work. Their seemingly loveless subsequent marriage seems like a patriotic contrivance, but, as ever, the two stars bring enough of themselves to the proceedings to humanise the slightly stuffy drama.
